![]() In Trapezoid Painting (1966) and Track Painting (1967), he emphasizes the perimeters of raw canvases by painting them black, while the white interiors are perceived as negative spaces. The paintings that would follow, characterized by non-traditionally shaped shaped canvases, demonstrate Heizer's early exploration of positive and negative forms such harmonies of presence and absence, matter and space, are essential to his art. ![]() Heizer began his artistic career in New York in 1966 with a series of geometric canvases painted with PVA latex. He currently lives and works in Hiko, Nevada and New York City. A pioneer of Land Art, he is renowned for awe-inspiring sculptures and earthworks made with earth-moving equipment, which he began creating in the American West in 1967. Working largely outside the confines of the traditional art spaces of galleries and museums, Heizer has redefined sculpture in terms of size, mass, gesture, and process. Alumni are a critical component of our mission to educate current students, and participate in a variety of teaching roles on and off campus.Michael Heizer (born 1944) is a contemporary artist specializing in large-scale and site-specific sculptures. The center works to create opportunities to learn with our alumni by focusing on the private investing space. The Heizer Center is dedicated to developing and nurturing Kellogg’s personal relationships with our alumni in the private equity and venture capital industries because these fields are particularly dependent on relationships. Kellogg boasts a strong global network of alumni and PE/VC firms that are seeking and benefitting from innovative Kellogg talent, and all of these connections are fueled by the collaborative spirit innate to Kellogg culture. ![]() Additionally, in funding academic research by Kellogg faculty, we are able to gain insights into how the private equity and venture capital industries function and the role they play in our economy. Our faculty combine their academic expertise with real-world experience in leadership roles at private equity and venture capital firms, and as angel investors and entrepreneurs. The fundamentals they learn in the classroom are supplemented by a range of experiential opportunities for real-life application, ensuring that they’re not only primed for success in private equity or venture capital, but also for leadership roles in finance or portfolio companies. Students then build upon that foundation with advanced courses and pathways offered through the Finance Department and the Heizer Center to fine-tune their expertise with guidance and flexibility.
